Your Author Platform Is Not Your Social Media Following – She Writes

Your Author Platform Is Not Your Social Media Following – She Writes.

An awesome article on what an Author Platform is really all about. For those who don’t really get the ‘Author Platform’ thing or think it’s just about social media, this is a must-read!

  1. Thanks for the link – interesting article which makes some good points. However, I thought the article the writer was criticising / reacting to also made some sense. Whilst it may be true that social media does not equal author platform, and the original article may have shown that confusion up to a point, its main contention was that writers should focus primarily on their writing and that, time being precious, their online time should be more focussed and strategic – and I can’t find much to argue with about that.

    1. I get the impression the author of this article hears and reads people confuse the issue many times and is commenting in general to it. The article she chose to highlight wouldn’t be necessary if writers understood already that social media is only worth 10% of your time and certainly not that kind of budget…

I do agree that authors are better off picking one social media and focussing on that rather than get caught up on the advice from publishers and agents to be everywhere. I can be found everywhere but everything I have (twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, LinkedIn) points back to this blog so this is where I spend my time. Even if nobody reads it but me, I still get value documenting my whole process, so I’m win-win.

I do get very happy when someone comments though, so thank you SO MUCH for doing so! 😀
